Commercial Concrete Service

Commercial Concrete Service

High-quality concrete is essential to a sound and stable foundation and surrounding hardscapes. In addition to being integral to load-bearing walls and foundations, it is the unmatched industrial standard for hard commercial surfaces, indoors and out. Concrete works as a standard rough gray permanent feature or a custom-designed surface for a cosmetic appeal or heavy-duty uses.

Our professional staff of foundation experts has decades of experience in inspecting existing structures, performing cosmetic and structural repairs, and designing and installing foundations, retaining walls, spillways, driveways, and sidewalks. It is highly versatile and used in permanent commercial hardscaping and constructing and repairing commercial buildings.

Concrete is the most widely used man-made material on the planet.  Early mortar forms were used by Roman engineers in their road building and construction techniques that are still used in various forms in modern methods. The materials that make modern concrete possible did not come into use until the 19th century, when cement was developed to be mixed with water, sand, and small rocks to form permanent construction material.

Concrete is essential to commercial foundations and walls that must support and handle hydrostatic pressures. It is typically the material of choice for steps, sidewalks, and landscaping effects that hold back soil or help divert surface water to storm sewer intakes.

An internal steel frame typically reinforces concrete that must bear heavy stresses. Steel is extremely strong under tension but is less stable under compression. Concrete behaves the opposite way in that it can withstand extreme compression but is weaker under tension. The reinforcing effect of the two materials makes modern foundations much less brittle and stable over long periods.

Concrete for curbing and edging lasts much longer than timbers or wooden structures that warp, rot, and attract termites. It also greatly reduces the labor needed for regular landscape maintenance and keeping traveled spaces safe and accessible.

Modern material formulations and installation methods allow for a wide variety of surface textures and colorings that can create artistic design effects or match existing construction or natural colors for a more organic-looking repair or construction project. In areas where foot traffic safety is important, concrete can be stamped and treated with slip-resistant additives that can be easily sealed in appropriate areas. Concrete is naturally porous and absorbs moisture. It can readily be polished and sealed in appropriate industrial and commercial settings to provide a much more non-porous surface that is easier to keep free of stains, dirt, or materials that create slip hazards. Unlike paving with bricks or stones, it forms a continuous surface that resists leaking or penetration by weeds over time.
